RESUMO

Using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and perylene-3,9-dicarboxylic acid (PDA) as raw materials, a new anti-freeze (-50 °C) fluorescent organogel with rapid shape-forming (2 h) properties was synthesised based on a certain proportion of the binary solvent of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Then, an artificial light-harvesting system (ALHS) used in extremely cold environments was successfully constructed by mixing fluorescent dyes sulphorhodamine101 (SR101) and rhodamine 6G (R6G) into them as acceptors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) is strongly associated with poor prognosis. We aimed to establish and validate a model predicting ASUC occurrence within 1 year after ulcerative colitis(UC) diagnosis. METHODS: A cohort of UC patients diagnosed between 2018 and 2020 at Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital, who were followed up for one year, was used to develop a risk prediction model. An independent cohort from January to December 2021, monitored until December 2022 at the at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, was used for external validation. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the adjusted association between six risk factors and ASUC. Subsequently, a simplified model was developed by eliminating a relatively insignificant risk factor to create an easy-to-use index. RESULTS: The prediction model incorporates five parameters: disease extent, endoscopic appearance, histopathology, baseline response medication, and relapse frequency. It generates a nomogram in the end. The discriminant ability (c-index) was separately calculated as 0.982 and 0.925 in the development and validation cohorts. CONCLUSIONS: The risk prediction model for developing ASUC within one year demonstrated excellent reliability and validity, which could be a straightforward and clinically valuable tool for predicting ASUC occurrence within 1 year. RESUMO

We would like to submit the manuscript entitled "Unexpected Cause of Chronic Recurrent Abdominal Pain: Mesenteric Arteriovenous Dysplasia/Vasculopathy" for publication in REED. Mesenteric arteriovenous dysplasia/vasculopathy (MAVD/V) MAVD/V is a rare, localized, noninflammatory, non-atherosclerotic form of mesenteric vasculopathy that involves both arteries and veins producing secondary ischemic changes and alterations in the intestinal mucosa. It was proposed for the first time in 2016. Chronic abdominal pain is the most common symptom, which tends to progressively aggravate, and can be accompanied by weight loss, diarrhea or constipation and bloody stools, only a few patients begin with acute abdominal pain.

RESUMO

A method for preparing new artificial light-harvesting systems (ALHSs) based on supramolecular metallogels was proposed. Various metal ions were introduced into a solution of a bi-benzimidazole compound (P) in ethylene glycol, and P exhibited high selectivity toward Al3+, as indicated by the noticeable red shift (49 nm) observed in the fluorescence spectra of P after the addition of Al3+. Interestingly, the gelator, P, could self-assemble into a stable supramolecular gel (P-gel) that exhibits strong aggregation-induced emission in ethylene glycol. Thus, two ALHSs were successfully prepared in a gel environment. The P-Al3+ assembly acts as the donor in the ALHSs, while BODIPY 505/515 (BDP) and rhodamine 6G (Rh6G), which are loaded onto the P-Al3+ assembly, act as acceptors. In these two diverse systems, the occurrence of an energy transfer process is confirmed from the P-Al3+ assembly to BDP and Rh6G. The findings of this study will enable the design and fabrication of ALHSs.

RESUMO

This paper proposes a strategy for fabricating new artificial light-harvesting systems (ALHSs) based on supramolecular multi-component metallogels. Al3+ was introduced into a solution of an acylhydrazone compound (L) in DMSO or DMF to form the L-Al3+ assembly. After adding Al3+ to the L solution, a noticeable blue shift appeared in the fluorescence spectra of L. Moreover, L could form a gel (L-B-gel) with 1,3:2,4-dibenzylidene sorbitol (B) in a DMSO-H2O binary solution. Finally, we obtained a multi-component metallogel (L-Al3+-B-gel) and successfully fabricated two ALHSs (L-Al3+/rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) and L-Al3+/rhodamine B (RhB)). In these systems, the L-Al3+ supramolecular assembly acts as the donor, while Rh6G and RhB act as acceptors. Additionally, we confirmed an energy-transfer process from the L-Al3+ component to Rh6G and RhB separately. The proposed fabrication strategy will facilitate the development of ALHSs.

RESUMO

According to the current research evidence, the therapy of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) might effectively decrease the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence. Investigations have been conducted on the relationship between NSAIDs (aspirin and nonaspirin NSAIDs) and the risk of HCC incidence. We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library databases for cohort studies published prior to 15 March 2020 and screened eligible studies. There were a total of 12 eligible studies (published between 2012 and 2020). We observed a lower risk of HCC among aspirin users [hazard ratio 0.53; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.43-0.65]. However, there were no statistically significant associations discovered between nonaspirin NSAID use and the risk of HCC incidence (hazard ratio 0.95; 95% CI, 0.79-1.15). Furthermore, aspirin use has also been found to reduce the risk of HCC in patients with cirrhosis or viral hepatitis compared to that in the general population (hazard ratio 0.15; 95% CI, 0.10-0.23; hazard ratio 0.65; 95% CI, 0.56-0.76, respectively). Moreover, no statistical associations were found between aspirin use and a higher risk of bleeding risk, with a hazard ratio value of 0.76 (95% CI, 0.51-1.13). In summary, the conducted meta-analysis reveals that aspirin, rather than nonaspirin NSAIDs, can significantly decrease the risk of HCC, particularly in patients with cirrhosis or viral hepatitis.

RESUMO

Anthropogenic warming and ocean acidification are predicted to negatively affect marine calcifiers. While negative effects of these stressors on physiology and shell calcification have been documented in many species, their effects on shell mineralogical composition remains poorly known, especially over longer time periods. Here, we quantify changes in the shell mineralogy of a foundation species, Mytilus californianus, under 60 y of ocean warming and acidification. Using historical data as a baseline and a resampling of present-day populations, we document a substantial increase in shell calcite and decrease in aragonite. These results indicate that ocean pH and saturation state, not temperature or salinity, play a strong role in mediating the shell mineralogy of this species and reveal long-term changes in this trait under ocean acidification.

RESUMO

In China, the prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis (C. sinensis) infections is only evaluated at the provincial level by national sampling surveys, and data from villages and counties are still lacking. In this study, we conducted a cross-sectional survey in 10 villages located along the Lalin River in northeast China. Clonorchiasis was diagnosed using a modified Kato-Katz method that detects the C. sinensis egg in stools. A total of 3,068 persons were screened and 2,911 were recruited for the study. Overall, the prevalence of C. sinensis infection was 29.3%. Among 175 participants who were cured after antiparasitic treatment, 54 (30.86%) were re-infected in this survey. After calibration of potential confounders, male gender, occupation as a farmer, smoking, and occasionally or frequently eating raw fish were independent risk factors for C. sinensis infection. The results of laboratory examinations in the C. sinensis/hepatitis B or C virus co-infection group were similar to those in the hepatitis B or C virus mono-infection groups. In conclusion, C. sinensis is highly endemic in villages along the Lalin River, and the primary route of infection is the consumption of raw freshwater fish. Co-infection with C. sinensis did't aggravate the clinical manifestations of viral hepatitis in this cross-sectional study.

RESUMO

Hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) is generated in many metabolic processes. As a signaling molecule, H2 O2 plays important roles in plant growth and development, as well as environmental stress response. In Arabidopsis, there are three catalase genes, CAT1, CAT2, and CAT3. The encoded catalases are predominately peroxisomal proteins and are critical for scavenging H2 O2 . Since CAT1 and CAT3 are linked on chromosome 1, it has been almost impossible to generate cat1/3 and cat1/2/3 mutants by traditional genetic tools. In this study, we constructed cat1/3 double mutants and cat1/2/3 triple mutants by CRISPR/Cas9 to investigate the role of catalases. The cat1/2/3 triple mutants displayed severe redox disturbance and growth defects under physiological conditions compared with wild-type and the cat2/3 double mutants. Transcriptome analysis showed a more profound transcriptional response in the cat1/2/3 triple mutants compared to the cat2/3 mutants. These differentially expressed genes are involved in plant growth regulation as well as abiotic and biotic stress responses. In addition, expression of OXI1 (OXIDATIVE SIGNAL INDUCIBLE 1) and several MAPK cascade genes were changed dramatically in the catalase triple mutant, suggesting that H2 O2 produced in peroxisomes could serve as a peroxisomal retrograde signal.

RESUMO

We report the phase stability of cubic γ-Al2O3 with respect to lanthanum dopant amount and describe a complete phase transition sequence up to a temperature of 1800 °C, which proceeds from La-doped γ-Al2O3 to LaAlO3/γ-Al2O3 to LaAl11O18. For this purpose, lanthanum contents from 0.81 to 10.0 atom % were incorporated into Al2O3 powders. X-ray diffraction analyses show that only γ-Al2O3 phase was present after heat treatment at 1000 °C for 2 h with 0.81, 1.68, 2.24, and 2.62 atom % lanthanum concentrations. The phase stabilization can be mainly attributed to the combined effects of small crystallite size of the Al2O3 powders and the presence of the lanthanum dopant, which occupies the Al2O3 octahedral sites. At compositions of 3.63, 5.00, 7.49, and 10.0 atom %, the amount of LaAlO3 phase formed by the solid phase reaction between Al2O3 and La3+ ions becomes detectable under X-ray diffraction.
